AHA launches 2024 Impact Goal and Presidential Advisory on dismantling structural racism
As the American Heart Association builds momentum toward its 100th anniversary, we’re putting a bold stake in the ground to address health equity and lighting our path is the new AHA 2024 Impact Goal, which states:

Every person deserves the opportunity for a full, healthy life. As champions for health equity, by 2024, the American Heart Association will advance cardiovascular health for all, including identifying and removing barriers to health care access and quality.

This goal is foundational to our presidential advisory published in Circulation this week, declaring structural racism a major cause of poor health and premature death among Black, Hispanic, Asian and indigenous people. Structural racism is a system in which public policies, institutional practices, cultural representations and other norms perpetuate racial group inequity.

Beyond making a declaration, we’re taking action to restructure systems, implement policies, eliminate inequities, foster allyship and support research.
